Marriage

The best and hardest word.

This year, K and I celebrate ten years of marriage. We’ve had more than our fair share of ups and downs, lefts and rights, rights and wrongs. When we got married, me at the tender age of 21 and he 29, our parents must have thought that we would be divorced within two years. After all, who would expect such an early marriage to last especially since I was very young and had barely made my way out into the world to see what life had to offer me, while K was a workaholic who spent more time pegging away at his computer than with me? But here we are, still together, still loving each other. Oh, we still fight, …

My true love gave to me…

I don’t know how other couples do it, but after so many years together buying gifts becomes very difficult. Every year, I rack my brain trying to think of something for K for his birthday and Christmas, and every year I invariably settle on something technology-related. This year was no different . He’d been waxing lyrical about the Canon S90 for some time, so it wasn’t too tough to decide to get him that for Christmas. He was totally not expecting it and is quite happy with his new gadget, toting it wherever he goes. If it’s hard for me to buy gifts for him, it’s a no-brainer for him buying gifts for me. I usually make items on my …

8th church wedding anniversary.

Eight years ago today, we put on our monkey suits and for me, a thick layer of makeup, and got married in front of 150 of our relatives and friends. There are few meals I love better than a crabby one and I seldom get to savour my crab without the kids distracting me, so it was perfect! And after so many years of marriage, you learn to be comfortable being silent when you’re together, so there was much …

Going to watch Green Day.

Green Day is one of K’s favourite bands, right up there with R.E.M., Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys (don’t ask). So of course we just have to go to their concert when they come to Singapore in January 2010. When the tickets went on sale yesterday, I booked a pair to spare him the agony of indecision about whether to go or not and what category of tickets to buy. Now I need to go and brush up on lyrics…

A gift of hope.

My lovely husband surprised me with this necklace to cheer me up. I love the symbolism of it and that he took time to trawl Etsy for it (which is a feat because he’s never particularly interested when I show him stuff on Etsy!). Genesis 9:13: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. The blue teardrop at the back signifies that your sorrows are behind you. The dove symbolises peace. I love my K.
