Thanks to Singapore’s 45th birthday, a nice long weekend is upon us, and we are off to Malaysia. We’ll be spending some time at my parents’, then we are all driving up to Desaru for three days. I, for one, am looking forward to the short break! The kids celebrated National Day in school today. Alison came home with a trophy because it was her school’s Sports Day and her team came in first for an inter-class relay. Zoe came home with a six-point crown, with each spike of the crown capped by a crescent moon or star. Kids Kampong
We didn’t go to church today because K had a terrible head cold and needed some time to recover from it. After a morning of lolling about, he started having cabin fever and decided that he was well enough to go out for some fresh air. So we packed the kids into the car and drove east to Pasir Ris Kids Kampong. The kampong is known mainly for its longkang fishing. The kids had never done it before, and were game to try. They quickly realised that longkang fishing is tougher than it looks! For one, you have to use the kampong’s net, which is very small and does not have much “give”. For another, small fish swim fast! Alison turns 8.
Alison is eight years old today. We didn’t have a party, as I said, just simple celebrations – a dinner last night with my parents, and dinner today with K’s side of the family plus her cousins. Alison had a good time. In fact, she happily told me, “Everyone’s treating me like a princess!”. I pointed out to her that she didn’t need a big bash to have a good time, and she agreed. I think she also relished being able to pick out most of her birthday gifts herself. We took her to Toys “R” Us to pick something out, and so did my parents and K’s parents as well.
