Lagging behind.
I haven’t been doing so well lately in the parenting department. I think I’ve become too comfortable in the knowledge that the girls are for the most part on even keels, and I’ve been resting on my little laurels. But Alison came home today with a piece of paper stating that we are to attend a parent-teacher meeting the week after next. Last year, the paper came to us with the “You do not need to attend the parent-teacher meeting for your child” box ticked. The worrier in me is concerned that this summons from the form teacher is an indication that Alison hasn’t been doing too well in school – although from examining her school work, it looks like her only weakness is her carelessness. Which is something that we need to work on, but not really something to haul us up about, is it?
Anyway, K will go for the appointment. Hopefully it’s just a catch-up session and nothing major that we are unaware of.
The other thing that has me doubting my parenting abilities is Zoe’s rather lacklustre progress in toilet training. She is 3 years and 4 months old, and really should be dry during the day now. But she still wears pull-ups to school, and always comes home with them soaked full. At home, she wears panties and goes to her potty to pee practically once every 5 minutes because she drinks so much water, so we often hear the refrain “I want to pee leh!” and then watch her make a dash for the potty, sometimes while her panties are still around her ankles. She’s had a couple of accidents, naturally. She’s diapered for nights and when we are out of the house, mainly because we would be spending all our time in the ladies if she went diaper-free on the go.
I can’t really remember what it was like with Alison, but a part of me seems to remember that she was toilet-trained by the time she was Zoe’s current age. I know I can either be a dragon about it and fast-track her, or subscribe to the “she’ll be diaper-free when she’s ready” camp, but again, the worrier in me worries that she is taking too long.
Sigh. Seriously. Think twice before you have kids. They’re fun for the most part, but they’re dreadful hard work on the body, mind and soul too.

lol. the picture is funny………
oh … with regard to potty training, Ashlyn was potty trained by two and Averlyn is still in diapers (she is 3 yrs, two mths) . I guess when it comes to the second child, we let it slack a little so that we can enjoy them and allow them to stay as ‘baby’ as possible
Alison’s picture is really great!! I love the depiction of K’s hair and everyone’s expressions!!
