We found THE house.

I’m happy that after months of searching, we have finally found a house. It’s a 5-bed, 5-bath intermediate terrace in the Tanjong Katong vicinity, and it meets all our requirements – it has enough rooms and generous common areas for all of us, it is on a good-sized piece of freehold land, it faces south-west, it is in eastern Singapore, and it is unblocked with a lovely little playground and green lung right in front of it. We are all pleased with this house, and are now waiting for all the paperwork to go through. If things go smoothly, we should get the keys by the end of June, after which there are renovations to be done and we should …

Heavy weight.

I went for a health check today and surprise, surprise, I am overweight. Here are the dreadful numbers: 1.58m tall and 68.9kg, which makes my BMI 27 (moderate risk) and my body fat percentage is a hefty 35.2% (healthy being 20 to 27%). How did it come to this? Simple. Put a guy and a girl together, have neither of them cook, have two babies and voila! You have the perfect recipe for putting on weight. Prior to meeting K, my weight fluctuated between 55 and 58kg – my ideal weight being the latter. 12 years and two children on, I am 10kg heavier than I ought to be. To put it succinctly, I am fat. So, what to do …

A father’s love.

Alison bought a cheap and flowery pair of slippers in Phuket, after complaining that her Ipa-Nima sandals were cutting into the space between her big toe and second toe. She adores them. Unfortunately, so does Bryan. He managed to get his paws on the left slipper over the weekend, and had a grand time chewing it. I caught him before he destroyed the slipper completely, but some damage was done, and Alison’s eyes reddened when I told her about it. To appease her, K said he would find a way to mend the slipper and he did, using red duct tape that he made a special trip to the hardware store to buy. I was touched by the effort that …

I’ll stick with breast stroke, thankyouverymuch.

I’ve been thinking of taking swimming lessons to learn how to do the freestyle properly. Something is wrong with the way I twist up to take breaths, which makes me go off-course. The school that Alison is with conducts lessons for adults one hour before her lesson starts, but the thing that has been holding me back (apart from the ungodly start time of 8am on a Saturday morning) is knowing that I will have to put up with the antics of a woman whom K and I have christened Tankinimom. Tankinimom has a kid in the bronze class. The poor guy (and his poorer coach) have to put up with her coaching from the sidelines, saying things like “You’re …

Phuket round-up.

I didn’t take very many photos during the holiday because I was too busy pigging out, running after Zoe and generally doing things that make wielding a camera difficult, but here is our holiday in a nutshell. More photos in the Flickr photo set. My mum has plenty of pool shots on her Mju Tough so I’ll upload those once I get them.
